The research purpose of the study is to investigate and identify correlates of ethical behaviour and attitudes of individuals currently working or pursuing a business-related graduate degree in Cyprus. Analysis of the quantitative questionnaire revealed that the majority of the respondents had a concept of ‘ethical behaviour’, consider ethics important, and hold attitudes that are conducive to ethical behaviour in business. In addition, findings revealed significant differences in three correlates: age, gender and position. Finally, reflecting the findings, the authors suggest specific actions that aim to improve ethical decision making in the Cyprus business environment.

The fiduciary dimension of the banking business creates a high potential for ethical violations and financial fraud leading to systemic crisis, regardless of national boundaries. In emerging markets, the lack of adequate legal and regulatory systems in the financial sector facilitates the exploitation of a ‘free moral space’. The moral integrity of bank managers, as guardians of others’ money, is crucial to the sustainability of the system. This study aims to assess the ethicality of some banking practices as perceived by top bank managers in Turkey, an emerging market. To this purpose 22 sector-specific vignettes that describe possible misconduct were developed and a field survey conducted. Vignettes were mailed to top managers of all the banks. The response rate was 29%. The findings, on the whole, indicate a high level of ethical awareness on the part of banks’ top managers. The respondents’ approval threshold is higher when the stockholder demands to be successful in the short run, at the expense of the customers and the other stakeholders of the bank. Another finding is that the respondents do not consider extending partial treatment to those with whom the manager has a care relationship as a violation of ethical norms.

Product placement, the practice of placing brands into non-advertising media, is a growing marketing phenomenon, which has received relatively little attention from business ethicists. Such attention is timely because the UK regulatory framework for television product placement is under review at the time of writing. In this paper, we seek to locate product placement in relation to traditional frameworks of marketing ethics. We suggest that this location is problematic because product placement is a form of marketing communication in which the message, the sender and the precise intention behind a brand seen in a television (TV) show, movie or computer game are often implicit. We suggest that the possibilities for an ethically principled regulation of product placement rest on two key issues: (1) the extent to which programme makers, media owners and brand owners make their product placement strategies explicit to audiences, and (2) the degree of commercial sophistication, which regulators attribute to non-expert entertainment audiences.

The unprecedented growth and demand for Applied Ethics (Business Ethics, Medical Ethics, Information Ethics, Engineering Ethics, etc.) since the last quarter of the previous century, has opened up a range of new opportunities for the discipline of Philosophy. While these new opportunities have been enthusiastically seized upon by some philosophers, others have frowned upon them or rejected them outright. In order to make sense of this demand for Applied Ethics training, I will first explore in general why this demand for Applied Ethics developed. I will then use the example of Business Ethics to demonstrate and discuss some of the suspicions contemplated by philosophers who regard Applied Ethics as a dangerous and deceitful temptation that potentially can corrupt Philosophy, and that philosophers should at best avoid or at least be very careful of. I will assess the legitimacy and seriousness of these concerns and objections with regard to Business Ethics and then outline an Aristotelian approach to Business Ethics that I believe can be practised with philosophical integrity.

The present study uses cross-cultural samples of marketing practitioners from two European Union (EU) nations (the United Kingdom and Spain) and China to examine the relationships between moral intensity, personal moral philosophies and ethical decision making. Additionally, cross-cultural comparisons were made regarding intentions, personal moral philosophies and moral intensity. Results indicate that both samples tend to use the perceived harm construct (e.g. magnitude of consequences, probability of effect, temporal immediacy and concentration of effect) to determine intentions in situations involving ethical issues. However, social consensus tends to be situation-specific for both groups and proximity seems not to be used at all when making decisions in situations involving ethics. As for personal moral philosophies, idealism is only used by the EU sample; however, for both samples, the use of relativism depends upon the specific situation.

When forming ethical guidelines one takes in account the area where one is situated and those within that area thus focusing on those people yet if that were true, why are there problems? Business ethics seem to correlate “age, gender and position”, there being room for error and without any regulatory procedures, problems can continue to escalate. The need to put ethics into effect for businesses will take some time so campaigns are being set up to make this much needed change happen faster. Communication is also an aspect for businesses to succeed in order to keep businesses sustainable. Consumers are working with coporations to gain a trust that helps the businesses reputation which then helps a businesses success accordingly.

A moral identity is constructed through lifelong endeavors that one must overcome if one desires to survive which includes maintaining that identity as well as reconstructing it so it helps the individual grow. Technology absorbs all the work by drawing the individual away from the challenges technology can and will do for them among other things. As technology develops, it is being made to think for the individual considering its use and convenience supposedly limiting individual development though that is only true for those that heavily depend on technology in their lives. Restak also mentions that culture, history and tragedy limits identity but what can one expect if much isn’t expected from people based on preconceived opinions that are followed by indiscretionary actions a society that depends on technology.

She was impressed with what I had brought to her and helped narrow my search a little as well as helping me find books by using the call numbers and a book mark that helped me find what I needed.
